Dental Bridges

Are gaps in your teeth embarrassing for you? Keeping you from smiling when you want to? Dr. Robert A. Cederberg offers dental bridges to cover gaps in your smile.

A dental bridge is a plastic and wire frame that is custom-fitted with teeth that are color-matched to your original teeth. The wire frame holds the bridge in place by attaching to two abutment teeth on each side of the gap. The false teeth are typically made of porcelain although are available in many different types of material (even gold if you like).

Traditional bridges are the most common type used. Two crowns are attached to the two abutting teeth, and the bridge is bonded onto the back of those crowns.

Maryland bridges are bonded directly onto the back of the abutment teeth without cementing crowns to the teeth first. This is a more economical option for patients.

Cantilever bridges use one crown instead of two. This is not so much a cost-saving measure but more for replacing teeth that only have one abutment tooth available.

The most stable option available is an implant-supported bridge. The frame is bonded to two implants placed where the abutment teeth are. While the strongest option available, the implants and placement of the bridge take longer to complete.
