Dental Crowns
Almost everyone has heard of a dental crown but may not know exactly what it is. A crown is made by forming a cap to cover a damaged tooth. The cap will restore a tooth to its original shape and size. Cederberg Dental offers crowns to repair teeth that are worn down, cracked, or broken above the gum line.
Crowns are also used in conjunction with larger procedures such as implants, dental bridges, or root canals and can be used for purely cosmetic purposes for severely misshaped or stained teeth.
Crowns can be manufactured out of different materials, depending on the patient’s cosmetic expectations and financial budget.
All-resin crowns are the least expensive but tend to wear down over time. Being the least expensive, though, it makes them easier to replace also.
All-ceramic or all-porcelain crowns color-match the easiest to the original teeth and are a common choice.
Metal crowns are typically only used on back teeth. Their silver color is not preferred for front teeth due to the aesthetics of having silver teeth, but the metal is the strongest material available, making them good for withstanding the chewing forces of the jaw.
Stainless steel crowns are usually temporary crowns.
Porcelain fused to metal crowns are good color matches but more prone to chipping or breaking.
