Fillings

A filling is a material that is placed into an area of decay (a cavity) that has been repaired. The filling restores the defect left from the tooth decay, making the tooth whole again. If a cavity is left untreated, the decay will spread and expose the mouth to the possibility of infection and making the repair a longer and more expensive procedure.

Several types of material are used for fillings. Some are metal-colored and only used when placed in back teeth where they are not as likely to be seen when speaking or smiling. For teeth in the front of the mouth, tooth-colored fillings are preferred.

The most popular tooth-colored filling is made of composite resin which is a durable substance that is stable enough for small-to-midsized cavities. This is a good choice for fillings that are exposed to moderate chewing pressures when chewing. This natural-looking filling can be used on front or back teeth.

Cederberg Dental provides tooth-colored fillings for patients who desire all of their teeth to look natural when cavities need to be repaired.
